I am an archaeologist with a research focus on ancient magic and ritual practice sharing academic knowledge with a broad audience.
I received my M.A. in archaeology of the roman provinces, pre- and early history, egyptology (minor) and classical archaeology (minor) at the University of Mainz and my PhD at the University of Erfurt.
The topic of my PhD was the use of writing in ancient ritual practice (Schriftverwendung in antiker Ritualpraxis). The ancient sources for my study were the Demotic, Coptic, and Greek ritual manuals from the 1st century BCE to the 7th century CE and I analysed the making and use of 268 ancient textual artefacts.
I worked as a postdoc for six years at the department of Egyptology at the University of Heidelberg and at the department of Ancient History at the University of Erfurt. From 2017-2019 I received a three year grant by the German Research Foundation (DFG) for my research about ancient magical signs, the project was located at Erfurt and Heidelberg (Germany).
