Daily Ancient Magic #23: Reading A Coptic Invocation

Today in Daily Ancient Magic I will introduce to you a popular ancient formulary known from Coptic magical handbooks. It is the standard beginning of ancient Coptic magical invocations.

In the photograph you can see a section of an ancient Coptic ritual instruction from the seventh century to attract a woman to a man (love spell). Underneath the drawings is the beginning of the invocation. It is pronounced:

Papyrus P.CtYBR inv. 1791

Tiorek eroten en neten ran etwaab

and translates to:

I call upon you by your holy names.

About the papyrus:
Papyrus P.CtYBR inv. 1791, ca. seventh century.
